Blizzard Hotfix to Spell Resist in Burning Crusade Classic

Last updated November 13, 2021 | Follow us on Pinterest

After a significant number of players complained that they were getting tired and annoyed by the high level spell resist mobs in Burning Crusade, Blizzard decided to nerf their health. How this change will affect PvP gameplay is yet unknown.

The “burning crusade classic hotfixes” is a Blizzard Hotfix to the spell resist in Burning Crusade Classic. It was released on October 6, 2008.

We’ve looked at this extensively and think that resistance are now working more as they did in the first Burning Crusade.

We discovered and corrected a problem that prevented certain skills that resisted particular mechanics (such as Unbreakable Will or Surefooted) from properly mixing with school-based resistance stats during the creation of patch 2.5.2 for Burning Crusade Classic. Because to the issue, resist chances in patch 2.5.1 differed significantly from those in the original 2.4.3 Burning Crusade.

We looked at how the resist chance formula changed between patches 1.12.0 and 2.4.3 as part of this repair. This led us to uncover a number of significant modifications that had occurred during the creation of the original Burning Crusade. Changes to the sequence in which spell strikes and spell resistances are administered were among them. We implemented these changes in Burning Crusade Classic patch 2.5.2, and we’re now satisfied that our Burning Crusade Classic resist chance formula properly reflects the behavior of the original Burning Crusade patch 2.4.3.

We originally missed certain modifications as a consequence of the bugfix, but we have since discovered them. The following are two prominent examples:

  • Excess spell hit may no longer be utilized to negate the benefits of skills like Unbreakable Will, which resist certain mechanics.
    • All other fundamental game mechanics and formulae are based on patch 2.4.3, which was established in patch 2.4.0 of the original Burning Crusade.
  • In PvP, Rogue’s Cloak of Shadows now properly resists spells at 90%, rather than 80 percent.
    • This was originally said to be 80% in the beta for the first Burning Crusade. Cloak of Shadows, on the other hand, received a 90 percent resist probability in PvP after a subsequent modification to the resist formula during that Beta. Cloak of Shadows’ resistance was set at 90% when the first Burning Crusade was released, and this was not altered throughout the expansion.

We regret for the delay in getting back to you on this matter. We’re looking into these issue complaints as they come in, and we’re sure that the spell resist formula changes have consistently moved us closer to the original Burning Crusade.

Thank you.
