Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the BlizzCon event will not be returning this year. Blizzard cited a decline in player participation and overcrowding as reasons for cancelling its flagship annual gaming conference.
The “blizzcon 2022 cancelled” is a rumor that has been circulating for quite some time now. The cancellation of BlizzCon in 2022 was announced by Blizzard Entertainment as the final year of the convention.
Blizzard
I’d like to extend my greetings to the Blizzard community.
We’ve decided to take a step back and put the previously planned BlizzConline event, which is set to take place early next year, on hold. This was a difficult choice for all of us, but it was the correct one.
Any BlizzCon event requires the participation of every single one of us, and is fuelled by our passion to share what we produce with the community we care so deeply about. We believe that at this time, the work required to put on a spectacle like this would be better spent supporting our staff and furthering the development of our games and experiences.
In addition, we’d want to spend some time to rethink what a future BlizzCon event may look like. The first BlizzCon took place 16 years ago, and a lot has changed since then, especially in terms of the many ways in which gamers and communities may join together and feel like they’re part of something greater. Whatever the event’s future appearance, we must guarantee that it is as safe, inviting, and inclusive as possible. We’re dedicated to keeping in touch with our gamers, and we view BlizzCon being a key part of that in the future. When we return the event in the future, we’re interested to see what we can do with it.
We also wanted to clarify that, even if BlizzConline will not be held in February, we will continue to publish announcements and updates for our games. We’re pleased of our teams and how far they’ve come in each of our games. We have a lot of great news and releases to share with you in the near future. You’ll continue to learn about them via our franchise channels, with the BlizzCon team’s outstanding members helping to support these initiatives.
We won’t be able to see you, so don’t worry. We’ll be together again shortly.
Blizzard has decided to cancel BlizzCon 2021 and 2022. The event was previously scheduled for November 2-3, 2020 and November 1-2, 2021. Reference: when is blizzcon 2021.
